Cranleigh Close Open Space is a 2.2 acre site off Constable Avenue, Clacton, providing quiet countryside recreation for the public and contributes to the bio-diversity of the area. The reserve is located on the southern bank of the River Stour between Manningtree and Harwich, and is a mixture of unimproved grassland, wooded areas and marshland with extensive intertidal mudflats and saltmarsh. The Kindertransport Memorial, “Safe Haven” marks the arrival of thousands of evacuated children to Britain through the Kindertransport rescue programme, from December 1938 to the outbreak of war in September 1939. The bronze statue is located on Harwich quayside. Read more…
The structure, designed by artist collaborators Hanman Murphy, is located on access into the international port. The large sculpture depicts the Mayflower ship. This piece of public art, made from a structural skeleton, evokes the historic starting point of the Mayflower story.
