A life-sized wooden statue has recently been unveiled in Weeley to honour the village’s heritage.
The statue was unveiled the prior weekend and depicts a Highland Soldier from the Napoleonic Era. Carved by woodcarver Rusty from Marnic Wood who teamed up with Weeley In Bloom, this new sight can be found where the footpaths meet at Second Avenue and St Andrews Road.
A history board has also been installed by the statue, aiming to educate readers of the Weeley Barracks which were present from 1903 to 1815. It includes a timeline, map and more information of Regiments within Weeley. The sign was contributed to by Dan Land, Essex County Council, Weeley Parish Council, Rose Builders, Weeley In Bloom and Angela Barnes.
