Whether you’re here for a short stroll or a longer adventure, start your journey at Brightlingsea Harbour and uncover the charm of this vibrant seaside town.

Walking Routes:
1. Rope Walk
Distance: 3.4 km (approx. 42 mins)

Highlights:
River creek views and salt marshes
Morgan Marine shipyard
Jacobes Hall (Grade I listed, dating back to 1315)
Optional stop at the Rosebud Pub & Seafood Restaurant

Route:
Begin at the Harbour Office, head towards Morgan Marine, then follow the footpath along the salt-marsh edge. Return via Tower Street with around 5,000 steps under your belt!

2. Historic Promenade
Distance: 5.45 km (approx. 1 hour)

Highlights:
Brightlingsea Lido (classic 1930s open-air pool)
Bateman’s Tower (built in 1833, WWII observation post)
Seafront views of Point Clear, East Mersea, and River Colne
Brightlingsea Museum

Route:
From the Harbour Office, stroll past the marina and beach huts, then along the seawall to Bateman’s Tower. Stop for refreshments at Café Lido or Bateman’s Café before heading back via Promenade Way.

3. Escape the Seafront
Distance: 2.8 km (approx. 33 mins)

Highlights:
The Lozenge nature reserve
Springmead Garden – Brightlingsea’s secret garden
Traditional High Street with independent shops

Route: Start at the Harbour Office, walk along Colne Road to the Lozenge, then visit Springmead Garden. Continue to the High Street for a spot of shopping or a café break before returning to the harbour.
